Train up a child in the way he should go, and even when he/she is old, he/she will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6)
Our centre is established to protect, promote and maintain fa’aSamoa – the language, identity and culture of Samoa. We provide strong emphasis on the Christian perspective.
Our program is designed by incorporating Te Whariki – NZ Early childhood curriculum and Taila o le Gagana Samoa – Samoa in New Zealand
We follow an Emergent Curriculum approach to planning and teaching that uses children’s interest to inspire and drive the curriculum. Teachers observe and document children’s learning in the form of learning stories. We share learning stories and photos to the parents and whanau through EDUCA.
Fetu Ao (Under 2) children, we provide primary caregiving including: bottle feeding, nappy changing and supporting them at sleep times. Our teachers work with parents to ensure child’s individual routines are followed at the centre. Each child has their own cot and blankets. We also provide them with fun, interactive learning opportunities that support their brain development and understanding of the world.
Fetu Pupula (2yrs – 3.5 yrs) will be provided with the necessary challenge to keep them engaged, foster their confidence and developing communication skills. Children will be encouraged to challenge their learning boundaries, develop their communication and understanding of relating to others. Teachers will work along with the parents re: child’s toilet training.
Fetu Lele (3.5yrs – 5yrs) are our transition to school children. Our educators promote children’s self-help, self-care skills, language and literacy. We work in partnership with the Flatbush Primary School Bilingual Unit to prepare our children with knowledge and skills that are invaluable for starting Primary School. We have a transition to school mat times for children to develop their numeracy, literacy and computer skills.
We provide trips to places outside the centre and visits from people which provide children with new experiences and increase their understanding of the world around them.
